Free Press Summer Fest – Amplified Heat will play, their own psychedelic, heavy blues trio
Free Press Summer Fest is a music festival held in Houston, Texas. The festival occurs every June and is curated by the organizers of Houston’s local alternative weekly newspaper, Houston Press.
Free Press Summer Fest plays host to an ever-changing lineup of musicians, each of whom play a different style of their own choosing. This allows for a wide variety of genres to be showcased at the fest – from blues to experimental rock to metal and everything in between.
This year’s lineup includes its own psychedelic heavy blues trio called Amplified Heat with members Dave Catching on guitar, Johnny Mitchel on bass and Nick Giambruno on drums.

Free Press Summer Fest, or FPSF, takes place in Houston from June 27 to 29th. It is a three-day music festival featuring many genres of music and curated by Houston’s Free Press Houston. This year the festival has an overhauled lineup featuring famous musical acts such as Tame Impala, Iggy Pop and Alice Cooper along with rising stars like Austin blues trio Ampshed.
The festival will also feature a psychedelic, heavy blues triumvirate known as Amplified Heat who bring the heat with their own unique sound they have dubbed “Psychotic Blues”. The band is comprised of Stony Burns (vocals), Dan Cody (drums) and Mitch Liss (guitar).
The 2018 edition of Free Press Summer Fest will take place on Saturday, June 16, in New York City. The fest is one of the city’s most renowned music festivals and is dedicated to celebrating cultural and artistic diversity.
Free Press Summer Fest began in 2005 in Brooklyn, NY as a response to the lack of diversity in the music scene at the time. The festival has since become much larger, taking place amongst other music festivals around the world.
The 2018 edition will be featuring 40 different bands featuring 15 different genres including classical and world music as well as an exhibition that includes painting, sculpture and photography.
